If you haven’t had Macaroni and Cheese from scratch, please check this video out and treat yourself to one of the great thrills your mouth can have. Maw Kitty channels her inner Jackie O for this 1960’s inspired dish and share a “true” story about her first vist to the oval office!

BAKED MACARONI AND CHEESE

  • ½ LB. ELBOW MACARONI (2 CUPS)
  • 1 CUP GRATED CHEESE SHARP CHEESE (CHEDDAR)
  • 3 TABLESPOON BUTTER
  • 3 TABLESPOON FLOUR
  • ½ TEASPOON SALT
  • 1/8 TEASPOON PEPPER
  • 2 CUPS WHOLE MILK
  • BUTTER BREAD CRUMBS
  • (1 ½ CUPS)

COOK MACARONI AS DIRECTED. DRAIN WELL,  MELT BUTTER IN A DOUBLE BOILER, STIR IN FLOUR, PEPPER AND SALT. ADD MILK GRADUALLY AND CONTINUE COOKING UNTIL THICKENED. ADD CHEESE AND CONTINUE TO COOK UNTIL CHEESE IS MELTED.
COMBINE SAUCE WITH DRAINED MACARONI AND POUR INTO A GREASED CASSAROLE DISH.
MIX THE BREAD CRUMBS WITH BUTTER UNTIL THEY ARE OF A NICE PASTE CONSISTENCY.
THEN TOP THE MACARONI WITH THE BUTTERED BREAD CRUMBS.
BAKE IN A MODERATELY HOT OVEN; AROUND 350 DEGREES FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES.
